THe Hotel
The hotel is located in the water tower at the river Wantij. It has 37 rooms. 20 of these are situated in the water tower itself. Four rooms on each floor. The rooms are light and airy and present a wonderful view of the surrounding area.
'For centuries, the Groothoofd, near the water tower at the northern tip of Dordrecht, was a meeting point for travellers, writers and artists. They would look across the magnificent crossroads of rivers, and admire the impressive woolpacks of clouds. Many have said to have found the true face of Holland here. The point where sky, land and water meet, stretching out as far as the eye can reach. In addition, the reflection on the waters adds a very special, indefinable quality to the light. -Some call it Dordrecht light.'......
Looking out from the northwest-facing windows, you can see the Wantij and part of the rivers. From here, you will enjoy the special light effects as mentioned above. The sunset is absolutely spectacular.
The southeast view stretches across the vegetable garden. It's a peaceful view, with people ambling around the garden at leisure. And across from the garden, you can see the restaurant inside the pump building.
There are rooms in the annexes as well as garden-facing rooms. Imagine stepping out from your room into the garden!
And there are two very special rooms: the Giardino Segreto; a secret garden with a summer-house. And the room at the top of the tower, which features a panoramic view of the surroundings. You can look right across the city of Dordrecht. And when the weather is clear, you can even see the Euromast of Rotterdam in the distance.

The Villa Augustus restaurant is surrounded by the vegetable garden.
It's a restaurant that allows visitors as well as employees to experience a strong connection with the seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. From the open kitchen, both literally and figuratively speaking the centre of the restaurant, the seasons are served upon a platter. The menu contains a limited number of dishes, some of which are varied on a weekly basis. That is why we cannot tell you exactly which dishes will be on the menu beforehand-.
We strive to serve as many organically grown or otherwise responsibly produced products as possible. Mostly from nearby, but if we can, we will serve beautiful ingredients from abroad as well.
Our chef is particularly proud of the wood-fired oven, which is used to roast or bake various wonderful dishes. Fish, pigeon, tomatoes, beetroot are but a few examples. A fixed menu item is pizza from the -wood-fired oven. This pizza also follows the seasons.
The blackboards above the kitchen list dishes we only serve in small numbers. These limited dishes may change from day to day. They contain ingredients that may have come available on that very day. Examples are: gooseberry ice cream, wild-boar rillettes with stewed plums, or fresh marrowfat-pea soup.
We also serve a few carefully selected wines-.
Our restaurant accommodates groups of up to 20 people. Larger groups – or smaller ones, of course – can be accommodated in one of our assembly rooms.
And weather permitting dinner can be served outside on the garden terrace.

the MarkEt-CafÉ
Next to the main entrance of Villa Augustus, on the Oranjelaan, is the Market Café. On one side next to the café is the bakery that produces wonderful fresh sourdough bread, biscuits and cakes. On the other side, food is being prepared, vegetables are cleaned, fish gutted, stock made.
In the market place, you can buy almost everything that is used in Villa Augustus as well: freshly baked bread, cake, preserves, garden vegetables, flowers, wine, olive oil, crockery, T-shirts, books.... Or would you like to enjoy a beer or an espresso? The range is expanded all the time.

haas-ladderTHE GARDEN
Right where the water basis used to be, which belonged to the Dordrecht water tower, we have created a wonderful garden. A garden that meets all wishes and desires evoked by the word 'garden'. A place to sit and eat in comfort, a place to enjoy the beautiful scenery and scents, the seasons and the elements – water, sun, wind, air, moon and rain. A garden that gives pleasures great and small and demonstrates that anything is possible.
A garden to inspire the kitchen. A kitchen to inspire the garden. The chef and the gardener inspiring each other.
There is an entry garden, a vegetable garden for fresh produce, an orchard and a flower garden. A sun terrace with Japanese flowering cherry trees, the grapery, a vegetable glasshouse… Visit the Giardino Segreto of the shrubberies with their winding paths, the apple, pear, plum and cherry orchard, or, let's not overlook it, the Italian garden. Overlooking the Wantij, the Noord, the Merwede and the Old Meuse.
Surrounded by a wall that was built up of pieces of stone found after the demolition of the water basins and the quay walls.
And there is so much more, too much to tell you on a single page. You'll just have to come and see for yourself. The garden is freely accessible during opening hours to all visitors of Villa Augustus.
Enjoy our gardens to your heart's content, but please remain on the paths and watch your children. Guided tours can be arranged upon request.

THE FUNCTION ROOMS
The former machine room of the water tower accommodates two assembly rooms. The atmosphere is industrial. Both look out on and give access to the garden. And in May 2008, the Limonaia, or lemon tree greenhouse, also became available as an assembly room.
The rooms measure some 80 square metres and are suitable for a wide range of activities, including meetings, lunches or dinners, receptions, presentations, etc.
Lunch or diner for up to 60 persons; receptions, etc. for up to 80 persons.
All prices are excluding the extra facilities.

There is a choice of two menus, separate luncheons, small snacks, or home-baked cakes.
The dishes vary according to the seasons.
